Ultra-High Performance Concrete

About

CFS 300-Series steel fibers are designed exclusively for use in UHPC applications, such as repairing and replacing highway infrastructure.  Made in the U.S.A., CFS 313-1, CFS 319-1, and CFS 325-1 Type I carbon steel fibers meet the FHWA Buy America policy requirements.

Ultra-High Performance Concrete is a class of advanced cementitious material with greater strength, tensile ductility, and durability properties when compared to conventional or even high performance concrete.  Steel fiber is added to all UHPC to achieve specified requirements.  UHPC applications include:  highway bridges, field cast connections, rehabilitation, and façades.

The main characteristics of UHPC are achieved through the following three principles:

  • homogeneity enhancement

  • density enhancement

  • ductility enhancement

Ductility is enhanced by the introduction of steel fibers. As the matrix is very brittle, steel fiber reinforcement is added to obtain elastic-plastic or strain-hardening behavior in tension.  Typically, UHPC has fiber contents of 2% (264lb/cy) or more by volume.

  • Buy America Compliant

All CFS 300-Series fibers are made from American steel and drawn in U.S.-based factories. The origins of all CFS 300-Series fibers are documented and can be traced from melt to bag. Product meets 23 CFR Section 635.410 Buy America requirements.

  • Capacity and Supply Chain

With production capacity of millions of pounds per year and a midwestern U.S. shipping point, CFS can ensure the fibers will be where you need them, when you need them.

  • Highway Infrastructure Applications

The mechanical and durability properties of UHPC make it ideal for bridge overlays, precast concrete panels, and field-cast connections between prefabricated bridge elements.
